MindTrek and Gamespace

TampereCityHall
Last week I went to the MindTrek 2006 gala, as Racing Pitch was one of the finalists in one of the competitions. There was also other activities during the day, such as a business development workshop led by Sheila Robinson from Solvebrand. The image you see is taken in the City Hall of Tampere, as the city had invited us for a reception. The Assembly computer festival won the MindTrek Grand Prix series this year, which was surely a well deserved position.

Two weeks ago I also took part in game design process workshop, arranged by the GameSpace research project at University of Tampere. The researchers there presented some interesting methods to aid in game design, which we tried out in small groups and evaluated & discussed the results afterwards. It was a nicely packed day trying out some new approaches to designing games.

Fixed fixed point slides

I noticed an error in The Neglected Art of Fixed Point Arithmetic presentation slides, and I have been asked some questions on the topic. I made a small revision to the slides and added few comments.

Site updates – And you should try IMGUIs

I updated personabout, feats and creations pages of the site to reflect my latest stuff related to the Assembly’06 event.

Additionally, if you’re a programmer and you have sometimes wondered why user interface coding is such a lot of work, I recommend trying to use IMGUIs (Immediate Mode Graphical User Interface). It is totally different way to create graphical user interfaces when comparing to the traditional approaches. I’m writing about this because my friend Jari Komppa just recently wrote a tutorial about IMGUIs. It’s nice and simple enough to get you started immediately.
